Fasting
‘Here, have some chewing gum,’ said my assistant, offering me a sugar free chewing gum.
‘Thank you, I’m fasting,’ I replied.
‘Oh, it’s okay. It’s sugar free,’ she said, a bit more enthusiastically.
I paused for a split second to think, smiled, and said: ‘It means I don’t eat and drink from sunrise until sunset.’
‘Are you on a diet?’
I laughed.
And I remembered that the day before my chair broke and sent me thudding heavily to the floor.
I laughed some more and explained the concept of fasting to her.
